Prepare for your state’s DMV vision screening
There is no single US driving vision test. Select a supported state for the relevant official guidance; the chart below is a letter-recognition activity, not a DMV test.
California
The DMV describes a screening standard of 20/40 with both eyes together, plus specified standards for each eye. If you do not pass screening, the DMV may request an examination by a vision specialist using form DL 62.

The DMV states a minimum visual acuity of 20/40 in either or both eyes, with or without corrective lenses. Its assessment and restrictions depend on individual circumstances.

At normal browser zoom, match the blue card’s width to a physical bank card, then measure 2–5 metres to your screen. The line approximates the angular size of 20/40 letters. Read it with the glasses or contacts you would use to drive.
